Super Bowl LVII Wagering Facts and Responsible Betting Tips

A record 50.4 million American adults (20%) are expected to bet $16 billion on Super Bowl LVII, according to American Gaming Association (AGA) research. The expected number of bettors is a 61 percent increase from AGA’s 2022 estimates and the expected wagering total is more than double last year’s projections.

With the expansion of legal sports betting, traditional Super Bowl wagers are expected to pass casual wagers for the first time ever. 30 million American adults plan to place a traditional sports wager online, at a retail sportsbook or with a bookie (up 66% from 2022), while 28 million plan to bet casually with friends or as part of a pool (up 50% from 2022).

Importantly, the majority of traditional Super Bowl bettors (71%) report seeing a responsible gaming message in the last year.

Setting A Budget
Whether you’re betting on the spread, over/under, game props, or simply joining a friendly squares contest, just because it’s the big game, doesn’t mean you need to bet big. Make your plan to bet responsibly before kickoff, and stick to the plan throughout the game.

Betting Legally
When considering your wagering options, it’s important to only be with trusted, regulated operators that provide responsible gaming tools and consumer protections like guaranteed payouts, rather than with bookies and offshore websites that offer neither. And Americans across the country agree: seven-in-ten adults who plan to bet on Super bowl LVII say it is important that they place bets only through legal, licensed operators.

To find regulated operators in your state, check the AGA’s legal sports betting map.

Knowing the Odds
Whenever you wager, responsible betting means knowing what you’re wagering on, the rules of your wager, and your odds of winning. As the year’s biggest sports betting event, the Super Bowl has more unique betting propositions that any other game, both before kickoff and during the game. Types of bets offered will vary by state and sportsbook. Find primers below to make sure you’re making informed decision if you’re risking your money:
